David Mowat: Protecting the Warrington Community
David Mowat is an individual who has always had a strong sense of community. Now, as a member of Parliament, he represents the people of Warrington South. This is a responsibility that Mowat takes very seriously, as he understands the crucial role that politics plays in the lives of the individuals who are impacted by them.
Ultimately, the experiences that individuals have are shaped by the political decisions that their representatives make. From energy policy to voting rights to education, virtually all aspects of one’s life is influenced, in some way, by the politics surrounding myriad issues. As such, David Mowat is determined to use his work as a member of Parliament to improve, not interfere with, the lives of the individuals who have chosen him to represent them.
Parliament: Working to Improve the Lives of Community Residents
David Mowat was voted into Parliament as the MP for Warrington South on May 6, 2010. Since then, he has worked hard to ensure that all of his official actions have supported the best interest of his constituents. By paying close attention to community needs and events, he has had the ability to pinpoint the issues that are most important to the residents of Warrington and champion the policies that best support their wellbeing. Most notably, Mowat is engaged in efforts regarding energy policy, economic growth, job creation, banking, and occupational pensions.
As an active member of Parliament, David Mowat participates in many of the debates that take place within the organization. Here are some of the issues that he has commented on to date:
- Per capita carbon emissions: Is the United Kingdom alone is trying to reduce the rate of emissions from within its borders?
- Energy bill: Are other European countries moving away from improvements in their energy efficiency? Should carbon emissions undergo further cuts? Does CCS technology have a future in commercial environments in the United Kingdom?
- Justice issues: Is there a way to improve competition and market forces among the highly paid professionals within the criminal justice system? Is there a way to prevent convicted criminals from cheating financial assessment orders?
Mowat is the kind of politician who works to uncover information before making decisions regarding a certain issue. These questions—and countless more—have helped him to assess the options before Parliament members and then choose the route that best meets the needs of the residents of Warrington.
David Mowat: Protecting Local Treasures
The dedication that Mowat has regarding representing the people of Warrington to the best of his ability springs from a strong sense of community. Although he did not grow up in Warrington, he believes in the community and knows that, through the leadership they deserve, the individuals living in the area have the potential to truly thrive. As a result, Mowat has dedicated his career to trying to create an environment in which the residents of Warrington can do just that.
In addition to weighing in on national matters, Mowat is committed to speaking out about local issues. As such, he keeps up with the local events and challenges that arise and makes it a point to show his support for initiatives that he believes will better the lives of others.
One of the issues that has impacted the residents of Warrington greatly—and has, arguably, impacted the population of the United Kingdom as a whole—is unemployment. Mowat has always felt strongly about assisting individuals in finding gainful employment, as is evident by his creation of the Warrington Jobs Club in 2009. This organization serves to assist individuals in getting back into the workforce and has, to date, helped over 100 people to improve their situation.
In February of 2013, Mowat took his work with the organization a step further by hosting the Jobs Fair in Warrington. Basically, this event served to connect employers with qualified job seekers and facilitate the hiring process. Many individuals who participated in the event found it helpful, and they appreciate the work that Mowat put into making it happen.
Another local issue that has gained Mowat’s attention is the Arpley landfill. The landfill is located in the center of the city and is scheduled to close down soon. However, the organization that is operating the site is attempting to extend its function for several more years, until at least 2025. Mowat believes that this would prove detrimental to the community and is spearheading efforts to oppose this initiative.
In addition to trying to prevent the landfill from staying open, Mowat is working to create a shipping investment plan that will benefit the residents of Warrington economically without damaging the community. Peel Ports is reported to have created a shipping investment plan that will, certainly, improve the Warrington community. However, it is also anticipated to create problems within the area that Mowat is striving to avoid by drafting a new solution that creates a win-win situation for all entities involved.
Taking Political Life Seriously
Ultimately, Mowat understands that representing the people of Warrington in Parliament is a significant honor. He is dedicated to serving in the best interest of his constituents and has worked hard to show them that he is listening and is ready to fight for the issues that are important to them. From energy policy to jobs, and everything in between, Mowat is paying attention to virtually all aspects of life in Warrington so that he can understand the needs of his people and represent them accurately in the political arena.
As mentioned previously, Mowat did not grow up in Warrington. In fact, he just moved there in 2007. In just a few short years, he has developed a love for this community that attests to its strength and the tight-knit network of residents that call it home. Mowat is honored to represent the people of Warrington in Parliament and looks forward to continuing to do so in years to come.
David Mowat understands that political issues are not always about a certain community or population, but that they are targeted at the needs of the country as a whole. But the truth is that the individual communities across the United Kingdom make up this country and, as such, it is crucial that they are represented well in the political arena. David Mowat is dedicated to doing just that and continues to keep the best interest of Warrington’s residents at heart.
